The Confirmation of Arrival is issued/signed by the International Office.

At LMU there is no minimum number of ECTS credits. So the number of credits that you will have to bring home depends entirely on your home university.

When filling out your Learning Agreement we would like to recommend you to choose courses from the English Department only. This does not mean that you are not allowed to choose courses from other departments as well but please be aware that a multi-departmental Learning Agreement may cause delays regarding the processing of your application as all the other departments will have to be consulted in the admission process.

In case of changes to the Learning Agreement, please contact your ERASMUS Coordinator.

There is a special section "Erasmus Students" in the "Englische Philologie" section of the "Vorlesungsverzeichnis". We do not offer classes specially designed for Erasmus students; the classes listed here are all of those classes from our regular course catalogue which are open to Erasmus students. The list also provides short descriptions of each class ("Kommentar").

After your Learning Agreement has been signed by Dr. Kelnberger and you have agreed with him on courses which are potentially relevant and suitable for you, please contact each of your teachers individually and ask for a place in their course.

ERASMUS students who have not yet finished their paperwork at the time of registration for the classes: There is no need to panic. There are a number of places reserved especially for ERASMUS students. Please do contact the lecturers directly.

Students from countries with a different semester system should clarify in advance potential attendance problems resulting from incompatible term dates.

You will be credited the number of ECTS points given in brackets in the course catalogue if you fulfill all the requirements set by the lecturer.

Please note that some classes can be attended as either a seminar or a "Wissenschaftliche Übung"; ECTS points will be credited depending on the requirements fulfilled.

• The examination format in a seminar (6 ECTS) usually is a longer term paper ("Seminararbeit"). This is a format that consists in running an own research project and producing a relatively advanced piece of scholarly writing. Please note: If you are not familiar with this format and/or have little to no experience with scholarly writing, with developing own research questions and with planning and running research projects, this will prove to be very challenging and there is a certain risk of not passing this exam (out of experience, this risk is higher than with other exam formats). Please consider this when planning your schedule (e.g. by attending more classes than essentially required to gain the ECTS-points you need at your home university, so that you have a certain buffer you can fall back to in case you fail an exam).
• The examination formats in "Wissenschaftliche Übung" (3 ECTS) usually consist in shorter assigments (e.g. essays, written exercises, presentations, etc.).

ERASMUS-students are subject to the same regulations as regular students when it comes to exams and number of ECTS points. It is usually not possible to get extra-exams, more ECTS-points than defined for a module/class, etc. Please take this into account when planning your studies here in Munich.

Please make sure that you can stay until all your exams have been completed. We do not usually offer extra/earlier exam dates for exchange students who leave Munich before the official exam date.

In general, it is possible to get 3 or 6 ECTS for German Language Classes (depending on the class type). Please note that the English Department is, however, not in charge of booking these credits into your transcript. Please contact the institution at which you are doing the classes and/or the International Office about this.

ERASMUS students are automatically registered for end-of-term exams by being registered for courses. In contrast to regular LMU students, it is not necessary (and not possible) to additionally register for exams during exam registration period.

Please do not forget to unregister from classes in which you do not want to take the exam - otherwise you will have formally failed the class.

Please note that some courses are not graded. If you need a grade, please inform your lecturers in time.

If, due to deadlines at your home university, you need your results earlier than our deadlines - which are one week before the beginning of the following term for seminars, for all other courses 21 September (summer semester) / 21 March (winter semester) -, please talk to your lecturers as early as possible (ideally at the beginning of term!). We will then try to get your results ready whenever necessary (but generally cannot guarantee this before our own deadlines).
